The core of the tutor position is providing tutoring support in specific academic subjects and general study skills to individual students in person and online. Besides that, APAC tutors gain a wide range of valuable professional experience. In this position, you’ll have the opportunity to design and deliver supplemental academic resources such as workshops in writing, Q topics, and/or general study skills and you’ll be able to pitch and follow through on your own ideas for new programs and services for Avery Point students.
Typical characteristics of our tutors are:
- Strength in subject area(s) tutored.
- Ability and willingness to work in secondary subject areas.
- Strong listening and communication skills.
- Active interest in professional development and serving as a role model for Avery Point students.
- Completion of one semester of college prior to hire, preferably at Avery Point.
- Friendly and professional attitude.
- Good self-discipline and time management skills.

We are also looking to hire Front Desk Assistants (non-tutoring). This is a work-study position.
Duties:
- Develop a good knowledge of APAC tutors and resources.
- Work at the front desk in the APAC to assist with computer, room, tutor, and appointment management.
- Provide information to students, faculty, and staff regarding APAC services, policies, and procedures.
- Perform reception duties including greeting students and other visitors and introducing them to the APAC.
- Act as the main communication point person.
- Answer phone and take messages.
- Schedule appointments and keep current, detailed data on daily activities through the Nexus system.
- Oversee activity in the APAC to maintain a professional and welcoming atmosphere.
Typical characteristics of our front desk assistants are:
- Good problem-solving skills
- Strong organization skills; ability to prioritize multiple tasks efficiently
- Outgoing, welcoming demeanor and ability to oversee a busy workspace
